auto box
« on: 21 June 2007, 06:49:00 »

Had problems with auto g/b on 2.2 litre echo engine. After taking advice from very helpful people on here have chnged the cam shaft sensor but g/b is still going into neutral when in drive mode causing engine to high rev. This causes g/b to go into limp mode any suggestions what should try next

if box going into neutral, check the little leds by lever - if they are not showing the selected function, change selector switch.

if they are, replace fluid in box, though may be that box has failed.

Is it occuring on the 2-3 gear change up and can it be recovered by quickly selecting 3 and then dropping it back into D....

If so, pop the front small sump off the auto box and look for the remains of a thrust washer.

Presumably, this washer will need to be replaced?

Not sure us mere mortals could change it with or without a guide :(

you will also need to reface the back of the pump with a lathe if the gearbox has been run for any length of time  with the thrust washer missing, then you will need to either source a sonnax replacement or make your own out of a convenient lump of phosphur bronze
