Bonnet Sticking - Even after adjustment
« on: 26 June 2007, 15:28:41 »

Hi all, nearly on top of my problems now luckily, but my bonnet keeps sticking, I have to get someone to pull the lever in the car while I give a short sharp push on the bonnet to open the bugger, I have adjusted the cable to take up the slack and is now nice and tought, lever clip catch moves well clear to release the bonnet stud thing, but still the bonnet wont pop up unless the bonnet is pressed with one pulling the release lever..... totally got me, I have also adjusted the stud spring on the actual bonnet, but makes no difference, anyone got any ideas?

wind the two rubber stops along the front edge of the bonnet in by half a turn each.

Sounds like the sprung pin thing on the bonnet isnt aligned with the latch on the slam panel properly. Try loosening the bolts fixing pin or latch, one is likely to have some adjustment, have the bolts just nipped then try shutting the bonnet to bring things into alignment then tighten fully.

Thing I done in a previous life to align the bonnet catch was thus.....

Unscrew the bonnet pin so that the bonnet sits really high when closed.  Get some thick underwater type grease - really thick almost like plastecine - and put a big gob of it under the large hex of the bonnet catch where it mounts onto the underside of the bonnet.  Screw in the bonnet pin to squish it out.  Slacken the pin SLIGHTLY so its free to meve about slightly then press the bonnet down so it goes onto the first click.  The pin should now be aligned properly to the catch on the slam panel.  Lift the bonnet and tighten the large hex nut so the pin is secure.  Clean off the grease.

Now gradually move the bonnet pin adjustment in so that the edges of the bonnet align correctly.  Use the rubber stoppers at the edge only to stop flex, not to align.  Keep adjusting until you are happy with the fit.

Secret is to do it a wee bit at a time, not all at once....
