Intermittant fault

Can any one help, I have tried many other sites and nothing.
I have a 1998 3.0 V6 (Auto box) estate omega with 97,500 on the clock.
Starts first time and ticks over great, put it in to drive great, now sometimes it will go like a dream other times you accelerate and their is no power (Does not do it in reverse).

I have had the gearbox checked no faults, I have had 4 diagnostic checks no fault codes  :(, please any one else had this problem or know what to do to fix it?

When you say no power, does it die, just stay at idle, or accelerate slowly...

Also, where are you based - wondering if a live data test may be worthwhile...

Hmmm....sticking EGR maybe.....or sticking multirams...

Live data would tell a lot.....

Does the power come back if you put it 1st instead of D?
Just wondering if the gearbox is going into limp mode as you say its ok in reverse.

In reply it just stays at idle and judders along, their is no difference if I put it in to 1st.

Not sure if anyone nearby had ability to do live data?

Would you say its feasible it could happen in reverse, but obviously more noticably going forward due to little use of reverse?

I have been out and driven the car and it has started the fault again, as it was a long quiet road I put it in reverse and it would not go above 1,500 RPM, I also tried it in first sluggish to start with then started to pick up.

???????

OK, so it happens in both forward and reverse.

Rather than pay for simple diagnostics checks, search for fault codes by doing the free 'paperclip test' (see faq section).  Double check nothing there.

Then check for air leaks, and check for oil in the spark plug wells...

Is it misfiring and running roughly when it limits at 1500 RPM or is it still running smoothly?

Once it's been coaxed up to speed does it still run rough or will it cruise along smoothly? Does it run rough again when you try to accelerate?

As TB says, check for codes and for cam cover oil leaks and water leaks into the plug wells. Sounds like ignition trouble to me, and it has been a bit damp of late!

If you do get stuck, I'm only in Four Marks if you need a second eye cast over it. I've got a bit of a hectic weekend ahead though so it may have to wait until next week.

When in 1st it quickly accelerates to 1,500RPM and no more power + very rough.
No cam cover oil leaks or water leaks.
No codes comming up.

A second eye would be great, I am working this weekend so next weekend if you could.

Sorry, no idea about the filter. I know it was serviced before I brought it, 1,000 miles ago.

Can you define 'serviced' - I suspect this is just an oil change, and if you're really lucky, and oil filter ;)

Worth checking fuel filter, should still look fairly new if it was changed recently....

No being good with cars can you tell me where I would find the fuel filter?

LOL, probably not done a proper service then.

The fuel filter is under car, just forward of fuel tank on petrol models...
