leAs in the pick, the hole has rounded, thought the bolt was a little easy coming off! The bolt itself is fine, its the hole! IT tightens to about finger tight then rounds
SO what can I do about this?
Will the other bolts compensate?
Am I fuked?

not on a corner really id get a new bearing cap tbh rather than risking it as its on the corner but i guess i would try it just keep an eye on it extremely close eye

basically they bolt down onto the camshaft bearing cap and should the bolt that holds the camcover down tightened to 8 nm with u can feel it its a little past surface touch
and the cam bearing cap tightened down to 8 nm aswell acording to my manual

Mmmmm bearing cap! Well I cant do it that way, really, really need the car tommorow, anyone any ideas on a quick fix?

Oh dear i dont think you can use another cam cap as they are matched in production. The only option i can think of is to see if you can cut a slightly larger thead in the cap & get bolt to match or get it helicoiled but i don know if it is possible. Someone with more knowledge than me will advise

Ive just been thinking, I recon someone maye have bodged this already!
It is the same corner where the oil leak was, when I took the injectors off there was a broken gasket (the orange ones) this had been bodged with filler, as there was loads of filler in the underside of the mount.
Also in this corner when I took the rocker off there was loads and loads of sealent, took a while to get off the cover.
And when I came to take the bolt out of the hole, it was surprisingly slack, so Im wondering if this bolt hole was knackered to start with? :-/  as it was so slack in the hole on taking it out

CAn you not drill out and repair the thread with a helicoil??

The ideal would be to helicoil the bearing cap (assuming its the thread tahts gone adn not simply the cover thats broken?).

As a short term job, get a thin rubber band with a bit of oil on it and insert it in the hole and then insert the bolt.......tighten to the 8Nm torque setting.....

If its the pastic damaged then use a washer with a bit of sealent around the base of it.

the thread is m6 find a extra long m6 bolt  and screw a nut onto it ,then screw the bolt into the hole as far down as it will go then tighten the nut whilst  holding the bolt with another spanner.the holes in these things are deeper than the bolts screwed into them so you can usually pick up a couple of undamaged threads at the bottom of the holes.

8Nm, I havent fot the tools to measure that acuratly, so would you say 8Nm is when it nips us, before a bit of muscle is used on the next turn of the ratched?
