Had auto electrician look at car today to try and get to problems with erratic tickover..he did a voltage test on the tps and have 5 volts on 1 side but when open throttle by hand voltage does not register correct..so am thinking fault could be wiring...where does the wire go from the tps and what is the correct voltage with throttle closed and then open?

between pin 2 and 3 throttle fully closed should read between 0.1 - 0.6 volts
between pin 2 and 3 throttle fully open should read between 3.9-4.8 volts
between pin 1 and 2 should read 5.0 volts

Thanks, spookyman60....  that looks like info I need so will check it out in morning if not raining again and see what it tells me..have you any knowledge of this...car runs erratic on tick over ..when i disconnect the cable plug from the end (back towards scuttle ) from the ICV the engine then ticks over smoothly??thought the icv was ment to make it idle smoothly not the reverse..any comments on this one...will keep you posted re voltage at tps..thanks again

no my problems was a stalling issue but to me it sounds more like the icv have u taken it off and had a look if it moves freely? it basically form what i can tell a wedge sahped piece and can get gunked up also i can give u the voltage it should run at on that as well i think if i dig it out if u think it would help

spookyman 60..voltage at icv would also be helpfull as that way can rule it out as well..gave it a clean last weekend but perhaps i will do it again

If unplugging ICV makes the idle more stable, that tells you something....

...the icv is working, and is being constantly adjusted by ECU.  So, the ECU is receiving feedback from its array of sensors that is causing it to adjust the idle constantly.  I would start with unmtered air.

Thanks TB..what do you mean by unmetered air...are you suggesting an air leak ??thought all air going into system was meterd as per MAF etc..perhaps you could expand on suggestion..thanks

All air going in SHOULD be metered by the MAF....but if you have a leak....you get un-metered air in.....and problems.

A vac test shows leaks up nicely...

TPS sounds like a bit of a 'herrang rouge' as it wont cause the symptoms you have plus, the auto electrician has been a bit slack as he should have read the live TPS data to double check the system.

if unmetered air is entering the system will i be able to trace it just by sound ..ie a split in a pipe or something like that or does it require a more technical approach?

not really that easy to find an air leak first think id do is to check all pipes from the maf to the throttle body and also the black part of teh multiram as ive seen 2 of these cracked also that the icv is correctly located and pushed in as these tend to not make a good seal i have had alot of problems with my omega just recently and ive had most of what ive mentioned here also spent more on it than the cars worth
