Manual gearbox issue?
« on: 11 July 2007, 16:54:47 »

My gearbox has recently started to do an odd thing, but today has been more obvious, when I go for 2nd gear, it feels like its 'grabbing' the gogs into gear rather than just slotting in, there is no crunch or other noises, and other gears are fine - just wanting advise incase its gonna lead to bigger probs later?

A change of gearbox oil might be worth a try if it's been in there for a while.

Yep, I agree, this is the first step.

Do you find you need the clutch increasingly near the floor to change gear? How long has the clutch been in there? Omega clutches are known to do V high miles, but it may be getting on...

Do you have any problems getting into other gears, specifically into 1st and reverse from a standstill?
Does it crunch when selecting reverse? Just thinking if the clutch is dragging a little I would expect these symptoms too.

No probs with 1st or reverse at all, no crunching. Not sure when the clutch was last changed, but last year according to the history, it had a clutch slave replacement costing over 300 quid, not sure if the clutch would have been included in that, it doesnt say?
Another thing i've noticed, when I change down gears, when my window is open, I can hear a slight single metal 'click' sound similar to a switch being flicked... dont know if its gearbox related, but only does it when I change down or go into neutral?
Will do the gear oil, I dont know when it was last changed so its on my 'to do list' along with a few other bits and bobs.
