Coolant leak
« on: 30 July 2007, 15:42:57 »

I have sprung a leak! Bottom right corner of rad as you face it. Looks like 2 pin prick holes right on the corner. Only leaks when running and very little pressure from expansion bottle.

Will radweld do? If so should I flush the system and top up 50/50?

I thought I was just getting on top of things  :'( :'(

As a temp repair then yes but you will have to replace the rad, eventually, and the rad could let go big time even with rad weld in it,sods law when it is dark and raining.50/50 mix always. :y

If its not on the cooling fins can you not get it welded or braised, would be more permenant fix. How is the condition of the rad if its old & on its last legs may not be worth it

..remember if you flush with water and then drain, you will still have about half the capacity still in the system (only drains when you remove the water pump).

So I would flush several times with water until it runs clear (esp if its got the old blue stuff in) and then refill with neat red antifreeze - full 5L can - and then top up if needed with water.   If you refill with a 50/50 mix,  you'll end up with more like 25% strength when its topped up.
