My bumpers are now a faded grey colour from the car having spent its life outside.

I tried a spot of tcut which improved things a bit but not greatly.

Is there anything out there that can restore them and won't make a worse mess?

best stuf in the world is called Hilite trouble is its trade only!!
and i expensive but it works and is excellent on tyres dashboards etc etc
made by Concept chemicals, for faded bumpers just spray it on and leave it, if relly faded just keep reappling it they will cme back!!

I use turtle wax extreme trye gel on my black bits you may have to do it a few times and then keep it topped up by appling it when needed Also works on the tyres   it is not coluored so you can use it on anything   Always test it on small area first as they always say

Autoglym bumper gel is also very good but you do have to keep reappling when you wash the car, to really keep them looking good.

Does it stain the paintwork around it Gary if you accidently get some on it??

perhaps this sounds a bit mean but i use good quality black shoe polish...apply with a cloth so as to get all the bumpers blackened and it is easier than a brush..leave it to dry for an hour or so and then give a good buff up with a soft brush..to ensure it stays black i then apply autoglym bumper care..although bit pricey..again leave to dry and then brush polish..my bumpers and door bump strips look like new and have a nice shine aswell..give it a try ..it works for mine

OR you could just get some Black spray paint and do it that way

Dazzler, it can stain the paint work if your not careful,it comes in a container that looks like a  shoe polish applicator in that it has a pad which you press on the item your staining,i masked up most of the body work with masking tape it stained very well.you also get a cleaner for the bumpers  which cleans off all the old polish etc, even after giving the bumper mouldings three coats i have half a container full so in theory one kit should do two cars.

 I don't know how true it is and not yet tried it myself but i read some where that you can use smooth peanut butter on it, something to do with the oils contained in it :-?.

  If it don't work you can at least make youself a sandwich when your finished .

Ah ha! The trick with this is to use any of the 'back to black' products BUT heat the plastic a little with a hot-air gun (or similar) and apply. This will allow the plastic to remain supple, seals in the colour and remains blacker for a great deal longer.

It's an especially common thing on those old corsa's around the wheel arch!
