Flushing out coolant
« on: 09 August 2007, 15:37:04 »

Put the Forte Cooling System Flush in then run the car for 30 mins just over...
now the temperature gauge would not go over the  92 1/2 line.....
that is cooler than i have seen it since owning the car but will the water have gone around the radiator? you may laugh but when the thermostat hasn't opened the water pump is still pumping the coolant through the rad and system isn't it! ....At what temp does the thermostat open as a rule?
The reason for asking this question is I don't want to drain the Forte stuff out if the thermostat needs to open to let it go around the system... :-?
At what temp does the thermostat open as a rule?

No. The coolant is pumped round the engine and heater matrix until the thermostat
opens at approx 92, and then it is pumped through the rad.

I would suggest that your stat opened at 92 and then stabilised the engine temp.
The stat will cycle from closed to full open around 92 to 107 in an attempt
to keep the engine temp stable.

Have a feel of your rad hoses, to see if a flow is going through your rad.

The stat should have opened during the 30 mins you were running the car for. Did you have a feel of the system pipes were all of even temp?? was the heater blowing hot in the car???? Don't get confused about needing to put a stat in boiling water to open when you test it out of the car. Did the rad fan cut in whilst it was running????

When using this forte stuff, is it ok to make a few small trips in the car to get the forte all round the system?  If other agree, maybe you could try this?

The be honest I didn't feel the rad hoses no :-[

Yes the heater I had on HI and blowing full bore, you could hardly stick sitting in it with the windows open it was that hot ;D

No the fan didn't kick in.  The electric fan usually kicked in about 97 degrees, but even though the car had been stanging all that time the gauge didn't go over 92 1/2 :-?

But still never went above 92 1/2 .......

Maybe it is done then as Mark reckons this is brilliant stuff :)

A V6 won't run for long without a working radiator with coolant circulating through it!

Might well be worth giving it a quick blatt with the additive in just to ensure it's been circulated with some force and with the thermostat well open, but if it's already behaving better I'd suggest its' work is done.

I have know felt all the water hoses and they feel the same hot ;D I have been for a run in the car and the temp went just over halfway when i was in traffic jam, the fan kicked in and switched off again when gauge was at the line under half.... :y
So let the car cool a little now before dropping the coolant, then fill with just water then drop it then 50-50 red coolant... should be job done eh! :y

I drained out the Forte and there were black bits of what looked like Weetabix in the very black water, so i left the little screw undone at the bottom of the rad, and got the hose and kept filling the reservoir until the water started running out clean. I have now filled up 50-50 anti-freeze and will do it again in a week or so....

Thanks for yet help yet again guys :y

Yes, freely available.  Apparently one of the shops in Bicester sells it. Omegatoy will probably know which shop...
