can anyone help...?non starting V6 :(
« on: 13 August 2007, 15:06:21 »

thursday and friday last week my mv6 wouldn't start first time, took about 5mins of cranking it over to get it to fire, after that it drove, and restarted perfect all day.
but today, she wouldn't start, i cranked her untill the battery went flat  :(

i've got no fault codes flashing up, no EML light.(EML DOES light up when the ignition is turned, then goes out when trying to start)
theres a good spark to all plugs(which are 2weeks old), fuel flowing through the engine and no strange noises. (except me swearing very loudly!)

RAC couldn't start it, so it is now sitting dead on my driveway.

Anyone got any ideas? Do i need Tech2?

Thanks

Not sure if you can paperclip a 2000, if you can and find a code 19 stored then go get a cranksensor.
Doesnt say much for the RAC does it?

I'd expect the RAC to at least carry a generic fault code reader these days  ::)

Non-starting was the issue when my crank sensor failed and it gave no EML. Code 0335 was the fault code stored, equivalent to a 19 according to TB.

Mine was only failing when the car had been parked hot for a while, but I caught it early. Got to be the prime suspect I'd say.

EML flashes rapidly if the immobiliser hasn't disengaged when you try to start, apparently.

Kevin, when you say 'after its been left sitting for a while', yours was hot, but my wont start when the engine's cold. could i still have the same sensor fail?

I'm sure there's a HOWTO on here.

It's up beside the oil filter on the passenger side rear of the engine block. When replacing, cut the wire off the old sensor (it's threaded up around the oil cooler pipes and impossible to remove) and route the new sensor wire across to the inner wing, up past the brake and air con pipes away from the exhaust manifold. This avoids the heat - the reason they fail in the first place.

Connector for the sensor should be clipped to a metal bracket behind the passenger side cylinder head. Unplug from socket on bracket and move it forwards so it exits a bit further up the cable tray above the passenger side cylinder head. It will then reach the rerouted sensor wire.

All 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0l Omegas can be paperclipped. If yours is one, give it a go ;)
