Bought the car 4 months ago all was well.......... new belt, tensioners oil cooler head gasket water pump plugs oil filter (just been serviced)
 
then after about 3 weeks it started cutting out at 5200rpm i thought that i just needed to blow it out a little as the previous owner was an elderly woman who cr@ped herself doing more than 50 in it.
 
From then it started getting worse lack of power above 3500rpm very slow acceleration in 5th gear
i could feel it wasn`t happy  
It feels as if its running out of Petrol, cutting out all the time when i`m running, tick over is perfect and as it is`nt always so i`m thinking fuel filter as i think this has not been done bought one from fleabay original Vx with clips for 11 pound including P&P
 
Just fitted the new Fuel Filter trouble still there............................
 

Just done the paperclip test showed me code:

16..........Knock sensor 1

Thats the thing it does`nt stall...........the revs cut out at abot 3000 (although not always) i take my foot off the accelerator and all is back to normal...........wel not normal i can feel that the engine wants to go but seems restricted.

Crank sensor as far as i know has not been changed.

When my knock sensor went I lost quite a bit of power. It looks like you've got two sensors to change there.

Knock sensors don't often fail. It's usually the wiring, it gets trapped or damaged.

The knock sensor fault will really hold the engine back.

i think you have just hit the nail on the head exactly that,

would it though only happen every now and again or would it be a permanent issue :-?

When mine failed the EML was off and on all the time, probably indicating that the wire was making and breaking. While the EML was off, all was normal.

Did you checked fuel filter.. I checked haynes manual only this is left..

Although I think  crank sensor to be suspect haynes dont include it

I changed the Fuel Filter on it Today, i hoped  that that was the problem, thats why i did the paperclip test,

as already stated.

Can anyone give me more Input on the Sensors,  

1.can i change them myself  :-? :-?

2. Are special tools required :-?

3. Where are they on the Engine

4.What sort of prices are we talking about


 

as the Paperclip test showed me both sensors were Faulty would the crankshaft sensor be affected by a faulty knock sensor, or do i need to change them both.

getting a little nervous about this as i am not to sure as of what to do.

Knock sensor is almost definitely damaged wiring. The wire is thin black coax and loops around the top of the engine so it's easily trapped. I'd suggest looking for damaged wire around the top of the engine. A tidy repair will probably fix it fine. The inner wire is supposed to be shielded by the out so a repair won't be perfect but it may well do.

To replace the sensor should only require a spanner but I believe access is a bit tight.
