How do you know what version its at currently - is that a Tech 2 job too?   I assume in most cases the sw won't have been updated in the cars life.   (Mines a 98 3L )

yes tech2 reads all autobox info  -  latest should be upgrade 9 or 10 I think. Correct about upgrading - most omegas still running on setup as per leaving opel land

Yours is likely to be V5.  The huge difference in smoothness comes in at V9 on your GS820 ECU

In theory a Cheapo Tech2 should allow you to query the autobox for fault codes and for the current version of the firmware. But there is no provision for uploading any updates.

I say in theory because my Cheapo Tech2 doesn't even talk to the autobox (altough it does talk to the egine ECU, Airbag, and some other bits), and what I understand from other members here is that the bits that the Cheapo units connect to vary from Cheapo to Cheapo and from car to car, so if you buy a Cheapo there is no telling what bits of your car it will actually connect to....

Noticed the difference immediately, or rather didn't notice it changing on the little drive to Gloucester on Sunday, or on the way home today. Well worth getting it done. :y :y

I had mine updated at the Lakes meet and as I posted soon after there was a noticeable improvement. However what I don't understand is why did they not leave the factory with the best programming? and why are there so many upgrade versions? :-/

I'm sure I read somewhere that V9 wasn't released until after the omega finished production.
