Cost of upgrading LPG
« on: 09 September 2007, 11:42:05 »

Working on the Elite today, the current LPG system is very bad. But it does have its good points, the tank is professionally done, routed well and neat. So is the pipes along the underneath of the car to the evaporator.

Its just the god awful mixer system, where by the spliced into the bag pipes and stuck some rubber pipping on the end and put 2 exit feeds on it. It was/is a pain to fit back to the plenum, infact even when on it does not sit right.

What would be the costing in upgrading to an SGI based LPG system? I am going to need a new ECU and injectors? - I take it the electric system would have to be re-wired?

Yes it will need rewiring, possilby a new evap.

OK Mark get the make of kit the model of the evaporator, and I will try a search around.

But anywhere from £500 to £800 for the kit, depending on what can be reused.

The evaporator will save a bit.

You will need injector set, ECU, loom, nozzles, LPG manifold, pressure sensor and probably switch.

Also need the make and model of the tank valve

Well you have a tank in there. You are earning and not paying a mortgage, and this car will alst you a few years, just get it done!

Anyway I gave you a rough range, tell me what bits you have and I will ask around.

Petrol fill up is about 60 isn't it, so that is 30 a month currently - 360 in a year and you know your mileage will go up. V6s use more than the 2.2s

Broken LPG is worth eff all, an SGI system will and what it costs to the value.

BTW we are considering an SGI system installed by MJI, MT and JL, it does have a certificate doesn't it?

And if you do a long run to say Scotland, that will save at least £100

my millage is about 400 a month, if anything it will probably go down!

£360 savings a year yes, but profit wise i could make almost £1,500 profit on this project, so it will take a long time to spend that kind of profit in fuel!
