I do quite a bit of hauling around of building materials by trailer or in the boot.

The car has done a substantial amount of miles.

Do rear coil springs "wear out" with time? Is there a recommended replacement period. They seem cheap enough and plentiful on Ebay (so long as you don't want springs for a self levelling Omega!) What about so called heavy duty springs?

If your carrying loads like that you could expect to have to change the springs every 30/40000 miles but if you dont have any issues withe the springs you have got then i would not be too concerned. They do seem to fail more due to corrosion than structural stress.

On the same-ish subject.  My '00 2.5td is a little to comfortable or should I say boatish...wallowish..Ok to be honest, compared to my '94 Elite(just 40mm lowered and new shocks), it handles like a pig on a pogo stick !

89K on the clock.

I'd like to firm up the ride and eliminate some of the body roll.

New shocks would probably make a fair difference but I'd like to go a little firmer but I'm not lowering this one.

Any suggestions ?

Changed springs for some off ebay - ok but then a vast improvement on those removed having covered 160K  before change a litt;e worn!!!!!
