Gutted Exhaust manifold Cracked
« on: 22 March 2007, 14:24:10 »

Hiya Chaps wonder is anyone can help here

After Chatting to James at Tunnie Cambelt Party I asked him about cleaning the very back breather pipe that gos to the sump

He said about removing the Exhaust heat Shield to get at it

So After Getting Hold Of a Torx Socket today i though i would have a bash.

Got the Heat Shield off and to my Horror i have found why my Car is Soooo Loud i thought it was the Exhaust

The Exhaust i think its the Manifold is Cracked a huge crack and i could feel the Gases coming out no wonder its soooo bloody loud and the MPG has been iffy

Now i will need a replacement, But the onething that is geting on my nervous is i think i have been had with my Head Gasket Change the Mech Guy Should of spotted this i dont think he even stripped my car down now :(

Oh thing that worrys me is finding another one of the same kind as most 2 litres i have seen dont have the secondery air injector, it was not on tunnie's but his was a 2.2 and i dont think james 2 litre had it either, I am starting to think things are not good.

Would anyone have an idea where on earth i can get a spare from ?

Doesn't look good. Don't worry if you can't find one with secondary air injection. Assuming the rest of the manifold is the same you could ditch the air injection and it won't make a bit of difference.

All the X20Xe's have them......even the ones in the Vectra....

Try for a second hand one as it will be nicely seasoned....then get it nice and flat before fitting

Yeh, pre-facelift is the same....has James got a spare...

As for flat....I use a belt sander to flatten them as they dont need to be head surface flat....

Craig

Assuming the facelift and pre-facelift use the same Manifold the pipe which connects on the side should be on most 2.0's 16v.

I know of one 94M and my 97P both have the same rail bolted to the side of the manifold if this is what your meaning.

Maybe getting confused but thought I should mention.

Try sourcing one from your local scrappers, got an intact one for the 94M for about £20.

Good luck in your search

Fantastic Mark Thankyou ever so much, life just got so much nicer lol Phewwww

Ill have to have a look down the local scrapper  then give me something to do on my day off

is this a common fault as the mechanic told me or is he speaking out of his backside.

It's not a difficult job,

Unfortunately I don't have any 2.0 spares anymore

If you aren't confident I'm sure one of us can help you change it

When I had the Head Gasket changed on my Vectra (X20XEV) engine, the mechanic left the manifold attached to the head and unbolted the downpipes, was far simpler than removing the manifold from the block.

Maybe that's why it looks as if th manifold hadn't been disturbed on yours?
