G^£ D@"" Microsl#t!
« on: 01 October 2007, 22:19:10 »

Spent the last 9 hours building a server, a windows update trashed the firewall, won't download SP2, have to start all over again!  >:( >:(  Has to be working tomorrow.  :'(

Oh and despite saying that windows update issues are supported for free, they won't help me.  >:(

I lost count of the number of times I has to start from scratch the last (and only, believe me) time I had to install Windows Server. Then it was the same story when I tried to install Exchange >:(

I feel for you. Good luck.

Fingers crossed that the repair function will fix it.  :-/

Oh boy, you wait until you try and make Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 coexist, then attempt to remove Exchange 2003....

Ruh roh!  Been saying Setup will complete in 39 minutes for a while now.  :(

Btw, how do I get this website to stop asking me about the clipboard every time I post?  I forgot.  :-[

I can only imagine. It's the downside of wizards when it comes to installation IMHO. Half way through installing Exchange you realise you've answered a question wrong when installing Windows Server but, because it was in a wizard, you're left with no idea where the setting is, or even if you can change it after installation, so you surf the net for an hour trying to find the answer, then mess about for another hour, then start again.  >:(

So, the Wizard means that you don't have to know your way around the whole damned system to install it, but you don't learn how to maintain it and configure it during that process, so when something doesn't go right or breaks later, you're guessing.

I know the alternatives are painful too but at least you can retrace your steps if you do something wrong.

Ahh, that's useful. I came across a machine that kept asking me that and it was a PITA. Just got to remember which machine it was now. ;)

I had Firefox, but it wasn't any better.  IE7 trashed the firewall and FF couldn't do anything about it.
