« on: 18 November 2007, 18:33:01 »

Just joined forum hello all. Recently purchased my 6th Omega and the first one that has given me any problems. now have a 3.0l elite estate 99 facelift model and is great but has now developed a fault which has had both of my mechanics i use scratching their heads a lot! from cold car fine then after about 5 to 10 miles down the road the abs light comes on the traction control light comes on and the speedo stops working and the power steering becomes heavy.both o0f my mechanics have put their computers on and no faults showing on system at all. various parts have been mentioned as might be faulty such as gearbox ecu road speed sensor abs control unit near side hub sensor bad earth to ecu. can any body shed any light if they have had same problem and found a cure or advise somebody in kent that might be able to trace the fault and fix it for me. thanks in advance

There is a firm who can refurbish them - its fairly common on post 98 Omegas.  Its a fiddly, but doable job - a couple of people here have done it.

Hopefully they will reply with company details, and how easy/hard it is.

BBA Reman did mine ... 5 day turn around for a 2 year gauranteed repair .

give them a ring on 01634 230 055 and they'll explain their system for you.

I cannot fault their service in any way

The removal/replacement is somewhat tricky I believ but is explained here :

If you have your ECU refurbished it does not need reprogramming with techII

I agree it sounds like ABS ECU. My car went the same way. It worked Ok first thing for progressively shorter periods of time till the speedo, ABS, TC and cruise control functionality stopped altogether. I cleaned all the sensors up, changed bulbs and so on as per suggestions in the vain hope it would sort it.

One small concern I have is that the power steering continued working fine on my car. There are however an astonishing amount of wires going into the unit via a large plug and a few via a small plug underneath so the power steering may be affected by a faulty unit.

If you decide to do the job yourself then PM me your Email address and I'll send you some photos i took which would be helpful.

-specific tools I found helpful
-What the detached unit looks like
-What the pink retaing clip looks like
-how much beer to get in

One day I will attach them to the Maintenance guide when I figure out posting photos! There is some good info on this forum if you do a search.

If you are near me (Brackley) or MDTM (Nottingham), may be worth getting a tech2 on it, just in case its one of the very rare sensor failures (never seen one yet)
