Had this lovely car for a week
After a very short trip 8 miles have a pool of "water" Local "vauxhall main dealers" assure me it is normal from the a/c
Can anyone confirm this? and then I can sleep soundly!

A pool of water is never normal.
Did they sell you the car?

Where is this pool?
Inside the car or under the engine?

Inside is probably a blocked scuttle drain.
If coolant, then a leaking heater matrix.

Outside, under the engine, will either be a coolant leak
or a washer bottle leak or washer pipe off.

Are you losing either coolant or washer fluid?

It is common for water to drip from the air-con ... the plumbing gets cold and water condenses on it, as well as being extracted by the drying process...

How much water depends on many things ... Air temperature/humidity.. what settings you have inside the car...  how long its been running etc etc. This time of year I would not expect a "puddle" after just 8 miles !!

All I can suggest to you is .. as long as the level in the coolant bottle is not changing, you don't have a problem with a coolant leak !! The only other source of water is the screenwash bottle ... so if the level there is constant whilst not being used .. I would guess it could be the aircon....

The last point to look at is the near side scuttle drain ... with all the rain we've had that might only be draining slowly ... it MUST drain properly or problems will result !!

If the pool of water is clear and just behind where the gearbox bell housing is then its aircon condensate.

The water is below the front offside of the engine
It has the consistancy of distilled water
The coolant level is constant after a 240 mile trip home

I must be having a senior moment. I can't recall seeing the "water on the drive"
bit in the thread header. That's why I asked where the 'pool' was.

Exactly how big is this pool?

If your coolant level is ok, and assuming it isn't just a small air con drain puddle,
then you're looking at either a washer leak or a blocked drain that is collecting
rainwater and dumping it.

Check your washer bottle level. Top up and operate your washers. If you have
headlamp washers, then I believe that you'll need to have your headlights on to operate
and check these. I'm not positive on this last bit, as I only drive the 'Cheap Seat',
but someone here will give the real gen.

Forgot to add this bit.
What you're looking for here is the washer pipework split or disconnected. A split or
disconnected pipe can jet water into all sorts of strange places.

Taste it!!!!
If it tastes sweet it'll be coolant, if it tastes soapy it'll be washer fluid. Condensate & rain water don't taste of anything much!!
