AC/CC only above 4c
« on: 14 December 2007, 08:52:27 »

Am i right in thinking that the AC/CC only works when the outside temp is 4c or over as on the way home last night had it on but would not clear the windons as well. And if so is there any way to over ride the system.

Would be good to have it working even if it - c outside?.

Thanks

Steve.

Mine seems to work, regardless of the outside temp. run it constantly, winter and summer.

it would be less efficient when it is colder as the water temp may not be as hot, but i have not heard of it not working when it is that cold.

override the auto by choosing the temp and then selecting the fan speed and direction of airflow (feel, face, windscreen) this should be the manual settings

The climate should work as a heater. The only difference is that the air con compressor doesn't run. Its only function when heating is to reduce humidity of the incoming air and it can't do that if the evaporator ices up, which is what would happen if it did run.

In any case, approaching freezing temperatures humidity should drop off rapidly with even a little a bit of heating.

It would be worth doing a climate control system reset and see if that cures the problem.

You will notice that I have cunningly omitted to tell you how to do this and that's because I can't remember what buttons to press. I'm sure that someone will be along soon with the right info.  :y

Given that you aircon cant chill much below 6 deg....there is no point in running it if the outside airtemp is below this..........hence it turns it off.

It took miles & miles before the screen on my car started to dry out. It doesn't get used much, & when I got in today the inside of the screen was soaking wet!  :( I tried it ECO off & on, on AUTO, recirc but it didn't make much difference until I turned the ECO off & opened the window - like in the old days! :y Astra shed that's used every day & has non working A/C is fine.  :-?

Might also be worth checking your recirculation isn't stuck on, as that will prevent any fresh air entering.

Never thought about that. I had the same problem last week when it was piddling it down.  I'll check later - where's the recirc flap?  :-/

And also check that your pollen filter is good and not dirty/damp due to blocked scuttle drain hole.

I think it's part of the blower assembly behind the glove compartment. I believe there's a vacuum valve on the centre console side which operates the flap through a length of vacuum hose. You should hear it moving if you turn recirc on/off, if not from within the car, certainly through the pollen filter housing.

Normal vacuum system checks are probably a good idea before dismantling, i.e. is there a good vacuum on the vacuum pipe that goes through the bulkhead with the heater matrix hoses? (not the one that feeds the HBV, but the other one.
