Hi, please can some one inlighten me on this problem, I've just been searching the web for Diesel Tuning companies and found one which has me intrigue, on it's list for Vauxhall / Opel Omega's it has two 2.5 ltr diesel engines listed, one is 2.5TD (Ref code DH18) the second is a 2.5TDi (Ref code BMW-B). The first has a power listed at 130 bhp and the second as 150 bhp, this is before chipping. What is the difference between the two engines

could be early and late management i.e maf amd no maf
 or intercooler and no intercooler, but i have never seen one without intercooler
wouldnt be a dragon box would it? they list two types??

4 diesel engines fitted to Omega:

2.0DTi - Vx 4 cylinder
2.2DTi - Vx 4 cylinder, replacement for 2.0DTi
2.5TD - (code U25DT) - BMW 6 cylinder, earlier ECU, without MAF
2.5TD - (code X25DT (and Y25DT)) - BMW 6 cylinder, later ECU setup with MAF

Both BMW units are intercooled, and produce about 120bhp, as they are detuned.  Easy to get back to BMW std of around 140bhp...

Though not without changing the autobox!

Well worth chipping or fitting something like a Tunit box. The extra 30 ponies makes a big difference and you should see a reduction in fuel consumption...once you get over the grin factor of using the loud peda.
You'll definately need to beef up the Autobox. I blew 3rd gear on mine. Great fun 'till that happened !!

Hi The Boy, Can you provide more details on how easy this is?

Need to do something with my Megy 2.5TD Estate Manual. Out of intrest I also have an old Banger of a BMW 325TDSE goes like the clappers and will return 40 to 50 Mpg without even trying. My Megy wont even touch it for Performance or more important to me MPG!

Hello The Boy ,

                   I'm with Zirk on this one , when you say it's failry easy to tweek the BMW fitted Diesel engine , please could enlghten me more ? , cost , avalibility etc.
I've just bought an R reg Diesel CDX estate ( with a manual box ) and I'm over the moon with it ,  :)
but it could do with a little extra poke.

Drop a PM to Omegatoy, he is the best source for all things BMW tractor like  ;D

Basically its an easy mod, just replace the chip.

Don't do this if you have an auto though, if you do have an auto and want to chip it, you must upgrade the box to the stronger AR35. fitted to 3.0V6 Omega's

If you don't the updated power will rip the box to shreads....

25DT (1994 - 1996) - Very early 2.5 straight six BMW unit with no MAF sensor.
X25DT (late 1995 - 2000) - Slightly modified version of the above, has a slightly different head design and injectors plus an updated management system (uses MAF to prevent over fueling and excessive black smoke).
Y25DT (2002 on-wards) - A VERY rare beast which never seemed to make its way to the UK, basically the same lump as above but with a common rail injection setup plus the option of a 5 speed auto.
X20DTH (1998-2000) - Gm 4 pot diesel, around in the late 90's
X22DTH (1994-1998) - Never released.....
Y22DTH (2001 on-wards) - Later 2.2 GM diesel.

The Y25DT is the 24v engine, basically the 2.5 version of the first 3.0 BMW TDs, (ie like the TG racer)

I know that the BMW diesel engines are timing chain driven, is the Vauxhall Y22DTH a Vauxhall engine or someone else engine, just badged as a Vauxhall unit.

bmw are cam belts ,vx are chains and there own :y
