handbrake adjustment
« on: 18 January 2008, 23:11:17 »

Hi

Got to put new pads on rear discs tomorrow (poss new discs as well).

I'll have to adjust the h/brake - presumably I adjust the cable first and then the 'star ' adjuster?  And is the cable adjuster readily visible under the car (in the middle?).

I won't need any special tools will I?

Cheers,

Thanks - sounds like star adjusters first, then cable to "suit my personal preference" (which is lower than the current 12 clicks which means that it fouls on the central armrest!).

A few hints

1) When adjusting the shoes the handbrake cable MUST have plenty of slack in it.

2) Make sure the main pivot points where the cable joins the actuatos on the rear of the shoe back plates is greased and free

3) When re-tensioning the handbrake (the last job you do), there must be slack in the cable when the handbrake is off.....6 clicks is about right for this setup.

mark each rear disc near the hole you adjust the handbrake shoes thru with the direction for tightening (tipex or center punch) then next time you adjust you know which way to go!!!! :y

Good luck with this, easy if you have good access like a pit or ramps but crawling around on your back under a 2 ton car on 2 axel stands  :o.
fairly easy though once your started  :y
