Lifter info please
« on: 01 February 2008, 13:43:52 »

I dont want to talk about what I should/shouldn't do with the car in this thread - I purely want a bit of techy info on lifers.

My Estate, had some manky oil in. I changed it all out last night for semi synth, and since then I am getting lifter noise. I'm not sure if it's localised to just one or across several, but it aint good.

I plan to drive it a bit with the fresh oil in and see what happens.

Could this be due to the engine being poorly maintained in a past life, or something else? Poor delivery for some reason?

Advice on how to tackle welcome. I have a new set of lifters I can fit, but don't want to do that unless lifters are the problem...

I think, at this stage, 2 or 3 100m oil changes and see how things progress :)

I'm inclined to agree. I'll do the Cardiff commute and oil change it every couple of times, or something...

Yep....run it for a bit and see how you get on.

Its just had major surgery so keep an eye on the oil and change it if it goes black quickly.

On a brighter note, all the other issues are sorted (I think) and there is consistent heat in the cabin. Not red hot, but warm enough..

Do you have an oil pressure gauge? connect it in place of the pressure switch.
Could just be that the lifters have yet to fill up fully but the other possibility is that the oil pressure relief has stuck open due to very dirty oil

I know regular oil changes are good but come on..... 100m(etre) changes? I wouldn't get to the end of the road!

Just out of curiosity - is the noise there all the time, or only when the engine is called?
