My MV6 seems to generate quite a lot of road / tyre noise, it sounds to be mostly from the rear, rear tyres are Michelin Pilots which will need replacing fairly soon. Fronts I've never heard of, Duron Sport One, these are new & were put on by the seller.
Are there any particular makes that are worth avoiding?

Yep, Pirelli P7s, shocking tramlining and noisy.  I have tried Falken FK452s, quite good but need an extra 2 psi in the fronts to stop tramlining and even up wear.  I also have Nexen CP641s on the back, very quiet and seem to grip well enough - for me at least, I am not an F1 driver, just fairly enthusiastic.  I have only had bad experiences with Pirelli and Michelin, so I stay away these days, but equally I am certain that others will have had good experiences, depends what you want.  I want quiet tyres that don't tramline too much and wear reasonably well.  I seem to have that with the Nexens. The Falkens may well grip better but I can't tell the difference and the Nexens are quieter and cheaper (£53ish each at www.valuetyres.co.uk).

I hear lots of noise about budget tyres but you will find that not all cheap things are bad - see tyre reviews in this forum - but as always there is some crap out there as well to avoid. I only quote what I have found in my own experience.  Hope this helps.

I've noticed my MV6 seems to have a lot of rear tyre noise as well, I suspect it is in part because the tyres are nearing their limits on the back.

I've got a set of P-zeros, same size, on my Passat that I'm going to have transferred onto the Omega, see how they go.

Hopefully it won't be quite so prone to 'letting go' coming off roundabouts either...traction may have kept me on the straight and narrow a couple of times this weekend

Don't mean to be picky here, but those NEXEN CP641 tyres are speed rating 'h', which is only good up to 130mph.

I'm sure you don't do that speed, but my point is you'r car can go even faster than 130, so for me, i would have a higher rating

Beg to differ about the sped rating the 225/55/16 Nexens are V rated and proper for the car - up to 149 MPH. Heres the URL http://www.nexentire.com/international/product/product_view_3.asp?fcm=fo1&fcs=ft2&idx=6
and I did check them before they were fitted and they are definitely V rated.
