I am VERY pleased with my Samsung......good price, excellent picture, reasonable sound (not a big issue anyway with my audio setup), good range of inputs, easy to use.....

at the mo i`m delivering and installing a hell of a load of samsung 40" lcds i`m must be doin at least 3full installs a day of these and i was told by a customer yesterday that he only paid £749 for his 50" lg plasma and that had £500 knocked off the original price..i dont rate the sonys or phillips as they seem to be breaking down quite regulary. i would personnally recommend the panasonic veiras or samsungs as these seem to be 2 of the best brands out there at the mo.. check out www.commtexx.com its an old work mate of mine and he seems to be able to do good prices on just about anything electrical...

Plasma is a dying technology and offers little benefit over LCD any more.

LCD has caught up and indeed overtaken on the contrast issue, modern backlights allow it to match Plasma on the brightness side and generaly LCD's run cooler. The new LCD screens have dark levels on a par with plasma and generaly perform better under standard lit room conditions anyway.

My big issue with plasmas is I know to much about the drive circuitry.....its complex, VERY complex....the thought of millions of little high voltage switches trying to produce specific pre-charge, charge and dis-charage cycles on each pixel whilst driving what is basicaly a vac tube.....

Plasmas are heavier and consume more juice, also, producing Plasma screeens around the 40inch size that support 1080p resolution is quite challenging from a glass production perspective....

Hence for me.....its LCD, its a no-brainer....when you understand the detail.

If I had to pick complaint, and I'm really scrapping the barrel, with the Samsung:

I shows up the poor quality of freeview (though it upscales better than any other set I've seen).
Manually selecting input source is a bit crap - I'd prefer it if it came up with menu which you could select from, rather than scrolling through available inputs.

Very minor points, as said, and I should add I haven't read the destructions, so turning on the digital enhancements may help, and the input source select is probably easier somehow....

I am utterly delighted with my Samsung :D
