Tailgate Spoiler Fitting!
« on: 08 April 2008, 13:39:40 »

Chaps,

As the post suggests, how do these fit to the tailgate? I intend to fit one to my car which hasn't got one at the mo. Obviously they've got to be fairly secure as you wouldn't want it falling off :o Any help muchly appreciated as usual.

factory fit ones are just bonded on, so i would use the same.

I will leave it to others to recommend a suitable bonding material.

You can buy a fitting kit for this from Irmscher for £15 delivered to your main dealer. comes in a double sided roll and a small bottle of adhesive and would need a crow bar to shift it once fitted...

I fitted a pre facelift one to my facelift. It was the only one I could get at the time .This type has four setscrews that screw into captive bolts set inside the spoiler body .You have to measure up carefully before drilling to ensure all swage lines line up.If you look at the photo you'll see that there are grooves in the moulding that allow for the application of a bonding agent like Sikafix or as I used over here Tiger seal. This stuff is incredible and is more than up to securing it.
All in all it's straight forward but just pay attention to the correct positioning.

Get an Irmscher or Prodrive lip spoiler for the best fit.

Yes they are bonded, our irmscher one had 2 locating pins I think but not 'bolts' as such?

I'd get it properly sprayed and fitted though, will look so much better.
