Could this be Crank sensor?
« on: 26 April 2008, 14:27:51 »

Could anybody help with just a little information. Wife drove car into town this morning and it started running rough.
This was very noticeable at tick-over, but seemed to get better when revved. Back on the drive it is running allot rougher than usual and when gears are selected and the revs drop it gets worse. The engine light has illuminated and stays on.

No fault codes as I do not have a reader.

Has anybody experienced a similar problem? Reading posts over the year I vaguely remember crank sensor having this effect.

Thanks for any help.

You are going to have to have the codes read. There's no point
in wasting time and money, and guessing, until you've fixed the
codes that the ECU is upset about.

I know that you will object to paying a ransom to Vauxhall to read
the codes, so consider buying a simple code reader. I've never read
up on code readers, seeing as I can use a paperclip, but I'm sure
many on here have. So ask for folk's personal recommendations
of what they've actually bought and used. You may find that
you can get one cheaper than a visit to Vauxhall, then you'll have
one already paid for by missing that first visit to the Stealers.

Note to self: read all the text next time!

As said above, if EML is on you need to read the codes first.

First thing to do is pop the Ecotech strip off and check for oil/water in the plug wells.

Doesn't sound like crank sensor to me.

I agree with AA......EML might be on coz its reporting a missfire detected.......a duff crank sensor on a 2.2 gives similar symptoms to a duff cam sensor........takes longer to start and g/b goes into limp mode.

If theres nothing in the plug wells then you will need to read the codes
