A few times recently my sunroof half opened in the tilt position whilst driving along and yesterday whilst parked up the alarm went off and when I went to it the sunroof was halfway back.

Is it a faulty switch or something else.

Before you dismantle it all, have you tried resetting it? Have you had the battery off recently?
Push & hold the switch in at, closed/tilt/fully open & hold till all movement stops.

this forum has got it all, i was just about to post on this topic and bam someone else already has.

im watching this for a result too; i have to jiggle my switch for it to close properly otherwise it decides to tilt open.

Had a dodgy switch on mine with exactly the same symptoms. I used to find turning quickly a few times would fix it for a while. I guess it's the fault of the UK weather - the switch only gets used 2 days a year!

well seems theres a few of us having this prob. mines happened twice now in last 2 weeks. tilt= fully open, closed=anywhere it wants  
i did see somewhere you need to clean a disc in there, is this correct???

When I first got an Omega ... some years back .. I was told to open/close/tilt/close the sunroof at least once a month (and to run the aircon for 10 minutes a month) as it keeps the mechansim "clean and free"... I've done this and - touch wood - I've had no problems..

Now it is probably either an "urban myth" , an "old wives tale" or probably just "bo***cks" .. but it costs nowt and takes but a moment ...

Had the same problem, and I think I've fixed it.

remove the interior light & the sunroof switch from the panel.
around the sunroof spindle, there is 2 clips. Push these in with a screwdriver & push the sunroof spindle INTO the panel.
Remove 2 screws in the interior light recess, & pull the sunroof rubber away from the edge of the panel, then unclip the whole panel.
The sunroof motor is now exposed. In the centre of the black box is a torx head screw recessed into the box. remove this then prise open the clips around the edge of the black box.Once removed, The disc at the top is what causes the probs seemingly.take the disc off the spindle & clean with WD40. Mine took 2-3 cleans. Then give it one more spray but don't wipe off, leave it to dry then reassemble.

I did the reset, but you might not need to.
Mine works fine now

Good advice on the aircon.  I didnt use mine for ages on the Carlton Diplomat.  Went to you the car one day there was something that felt like it had leaked in the car.  When summer came round the guy who tested it said something about corroded pipes.  Told me to run the aircon a minimum of once a month but weekly was better.

I was also told that some volvos automatically circulate the aircon when the car is started up.  Dunno if its true, dunno if the Miggys have anything like this either.

Turned my switch to 'Closed' the other day... Sunroof closed, then opened back up again to where it was before!

Think its also down to pot luck...

My dad drives a 98 Plate Astra.
He’s had the car 5 years at least. Aircon gets used maybe 3 or 4 times a year (in summer) - never turns it on to circulate gas etc every week / month.
His car NEVER gets serviced, its used on tiny journeys  too:'(
Engine rattles and bangs... Radiator leaks.. List goes on,

BUT the Air Con STILL blows ice cold

God knows how!

I will give that a go, I won't get a chance untill next week though, got the cossie in bits this week.
