headlamp fitments?
« on: 07 July 2008, 19:43:00 »

Hi all, I know this has probably been asked before, BUT does anyone know if projectors from a 97-99 fit the 94-97 model?  I know this was a mini-facelift but I have a chance to get a pair from a 98 but want to be sure before I waste my cash,  I currently have the old, yellowing and generally terrible ribbed type headlights which must have been designed by Lucas the prince of darkness considering how bad they are >:( so any help would be appreciated, thankyou.  :-/

Yes, they fit straight in, just done this 'mod' myself. About 40mins work, and a direct swap BUT... you need to know that the bulbs are different..
Old type are H1 + H1 for main beam and headlight.
Projectors are H7 + H1 for main beam and headlight.
You just need to remember to specify later model if ordering bulbs, or you will get the old ones.. ie, H1 + H1, instead of H7 + H1.

Hope this helps..:y

:-? another question for you all, I've managed to obtain a pair of hid units, trouble is can I just plug these in? they have the 'black box' attached and look complete.
the auction didn't say they were hid's so I kinda bought blind but think I got a bargain for £60 inc p&p.

well you need to power ballast pack to get dipped beam working so you remove yellow wire fron headlamp main plug and connect to ballast pack and the other wire on ballast pack goes to earth matey ! :y

ok, I'll have a go, prepare for a 'flaming omega' !!  ;D

just checked out the wiring, firstly the hid unit has a socket on the ballast box, trouble is, I don't have the leads...wonder if Vxl put wiring in for it?  Methinks not considering I've got an early model, bugger!
