Dexron III
« on: 18 August 2008, 19:48:20 »

Local Vx boys tried to tell me tonight that Dex III has been superceeded by Dex II and they had no Dex III to sell me. So will try elsewhere. Can anyone supply me with the following please?

Vx part no. for Dex III
The price per litre (is it on Trade Club price list)
An idea of how much I will need to bring it back to full after droping both autobox sumps

Thanks

They are talking BS, as usual.

Need 6-7l, try Opie Oils (when you sign up, sign up as OOF member for discount).  I've just put 6.5l of Fuch Titan 4000 supplied by Opie in the MV6 :)

Not a TC item, and expensive from Vx

Halfords sell Coma DIII for £20 for 5l, but the Fuch stuff is better imho

If you order it now, it may well be with you on Wednesday. Opie were pretty quick with my order.

i had this from vx as well, WTF are they playing at? I have i mind to find a motor with a fried box fill it with...
No that would be dishonest. Why are they selling 2 and not 3? Its obviously the wrong stuff.

Virtually same box fitted to Senny, which I think ran on DII.  I'd rather put the proper stuff in, but I guess it will run for a while on DII...

cant see their logic tho. How can dex 2 suddenly become the right stuff all of a sudden, just because they dont stock 3 anymore? Yeah fine i suppose thats reason enough.

Probably because the FWD autoboxes (Aisin Warner IIRC) use DexII and FWD cars pretty much make up the whole VX range now.

Dealers aren't going to keep a stock of DexIII just for the 5 - 14 year old Omega boxes. Nobody who uses VX for Omega servicing will ever be told that the box needs fluid changes every 60K....

.....So that just leaves us slightly more informed individuals who tend to just change it ourselves!!

Yeah, makes sense. Right up to the part where they are telling us to use 2 in a box clearly designed for 3. Need a chat with the oil man perhaps? If 2 is a superior oil then fine, but if it was available when the box was designed and they chose 3 instead of 2 then surely it must be 3? But on the other hand, as you say, if its used in 4 wheel drive boxs then are we missing out on something. :-/

Dex II was used on the AR25 and AR35 in the days of the Senator and Carlton, it changed to Dex III on the Omega.

Must confess I seem to recall BMW used this box on the old 5 series so took a look on GSF website to get an idea of price. I could only find reference to Dex II so somewhat confusing as to why both seem to have been used even in more recent times. Mind you there seems to be several variants of DexII as well looking at Fuchs website. What are the differences between them all is it just about change cycles?

Is it OK to mix II and III? I thought I remember seeing something about not mixing them because that in itself is enough to cause gremlins.

Mark - Thanks, will try SAF this morning nothing on their website but as they are on the doorstep was to be my first port of call. Did you see my PM re the 'box software upgrade? Would you be able to do the Tech II magic for me please, assuming you have managed to get TIS sorted?
