what he means is that if you watch something from the library e.g. Heroes from last night, I can be recording sky sports and sky movies at the same time. However, attempting to switch to a live broadcast would interrupt one of the two recordings...

The aerial on my roof has blown over. I have sky but use the aerial to watch freeview/terrestrial when recording from sky. I have been quoted £100 for new aerial/mast. To upgrade to sky+ is £99.

Finally, the point.

With sky+, can I watch one channel whilst recording another? Can I then transfer that recording to my DVD recorder?

You can...you can also record two channels whilst watching a third recorded program. IT ROCKS  

Eh, actually you can't. Not with Sky+

With Sky+ there are only two feeds from the LNB, meaning you can record ONE Sat channel while watching a second. ie, record Sky sports whilst watching Sky movies.

Only with Virgin cable and their V+ box you can record TWO channels whilst watching a third. ie, record Sky sports and Sky movies whilst watching Setanta sports.

I know, cos i have both systems.  

Yes, two tuners (two feeds from the LNB) but, that means that you CAN do the above i.e. record two programmes whilst watching a programme you recorded earlier.

Indeed you were. Because i didn't read your reply properly.  

With Sky though, you can't record 2 and watch 1, only watch a previously recorded show.

With Virgin, you can record 2 whilst still watching another live channel. A better system i think.  

Plus, when browsing the guide with cable, the tv picture moves to the top of the screen which is really handy. Sky can't do that.  

Either way,  you'll wonder how you ever got by with video tapes.

Not played with one myself but you may well find the output - for some programmes if not all - is protected with macrovision or something on playback meaning you can't make a 2nd generation copy of it.

They'll need to put another downlead in from the dish too, IIRC.

As has been confirmed, can record two different channels a the same time.  Can watch an already recorded program at the same time.

I have a DVD recorder connected via scart, can DVD record any live programs or during playback (including movies) but bear in mind that there is an extra digital to analogue to digital conversion that has to take place so quality is reduced (although not noticeably to me)

When you have recordered something on your sky+ box and want to transfer it to yuor dvd recorder you have to play the program so in essence watch it.

this means you cant record something to the dvd recorder while watching something else on sky so its best to do it when you dont want to watch tv

When you have recordered something on your sky+ box and want to transfer it to yuor dvd recorder you have to play the program so in essence watch it.

this means you cant record something to the dvd recorder while watching something else on sky so its best to do it when you dont want to watch tv

Now that is a poor design  . I have to set the DVD recorder going every night so that I don't accidently press any buttons on the Sky+ remote and cancel it...now that's another pain in the arse.
