Be ready to have your pants pulled down mate :-[
You can get the Gearbox filter and gaskets for £35 from ABS, the oil will cost you about £20, then an hour or so of your time :y

Well I was referring to the autobox specifically,  but obviously you should consider the other service items to if history unknown or if due.

I will take it to alocal garage for them to change the gear box fluids and filter, if problem goes well and good. otherwise a software update will be next...

I checked the service history of the car and there is no mention of gearbox fluid change, just normal oil change. I suppose it needs one as i am assuming it has never had once since jan 2002!!

I believe the gearbox is something that Vauxhall reckon is a sealed unit, not sure you can even get the filters and gaskets from Vauxhall :-[
You can virtually guarantee it hasn't ever being changed mate

It depends on how you look at it really, meeting up with like minded people, having a laugh and learning about your car.
Newent is a similar distance for me.... last year one of us did 800 odd miles round trip

You can get the gaskets from Vx - around 20 quid for both on trade, or use Loctite liquid gasket.  Someone will have to tell you the part number and where to get it.

At that mileage I am sure you can clean (in parafin) and reuse the filter - its not a throwaway like an oil filter.

Make sure to remove both sumps as you can also check there is no debris (broken washers..)

how long has this problem been happening? Is it getting progressively worse? I dont want to worry you but i have read posts about auto boxs slipping and further driveing has only made the problem worse, sometimes terminally for the box. It is a seperate unit to the engine and has 2 oil sumps running dexron 3 oil. You  will need 2 gaskits and 5 or 6 litres of oil. Keep any left over for further top ups. Very low miles, so i worry if it has leeked oil out, any red/brown stuff on the drive or under the car?personally i would not want to do any miles until the level has been checked at the very least. There is a guide in maintenance section. Print it off, and take that and the parts to a local mech. Dont go to vx for the work, just the parts. They will take the piss! The first place to start with most auto box probs is the oil level in it. Do that and go from there. Hope helps. Good luck.

A software update will not fix that issue, thats mechanical.  As others have said, replace the transmission fluid as first port of call.

Thanks for your input. I have noticed the problem only in the last week, i do only 50 miles a week so i am not so worried. Will have the transmission oil changed next week and hopefully take thing from that point....
I have toyed with the idea that the car was sold becuase of a terminal gearbox problem, thats the thing with cars you can never tell. I drove the car for a 300 miles round trips when i got the car an there was no problem at all..

Ok,in that case i would suggest using the car as little as possible, until the level has been checked or the box oil serviced/changed. You could end up costing yourself a gear box. Hopefully you have caught it early enough...
