auto box oil change

just gonna change oil in box. 1 quick question. how do i get the oil back in. is it thru the bolt hole in the sump or is there another hole hiding away somewhere. probably a silly question but thought i'd just check before dropping the oil.

it's that other bolt i said about matey, it should be up towards the front of the box on the drivers side, there's what looks like a big hole about an inch in diametre which has a plug and a 12mm bolt head i think in it- probably hidden behind a cat though

cant honestly say i know if theres a circlip, if you get a pair of long nose pliers you should soon have any circlip out.
if you want i can get you a picy and put on an arrow to the plug?

if you could mate, that would be brill. if it is that plug tho it's right behind the down pipe. just above the smaller box sump.

think there is confusion here, there is only 1 bolt on the sump of the autobox. Its on the drivers side... its the same plug you use to check the level.

To get fluid out you have to take the sump off, to refill it has to go through the same bolt next to hidden by the exhaust... best way is to use one of those garden spray kits, usually designed for weed killer. Big white container you can pump up, and squirt water out under pressure, just use ATF instead!  ;D

or ....... a cheaper way is a small funnel & a length of tubing thread through the engine bay ......  :y

The filler is on the side (drivers side) and is a twelve mm bolt IIRC no circlip. You will need some tubing unless your Dexron111 bottles come with one.

If you do a search on the forum you will find a wealth of info including how to check the level when you have refilled it.

Not cheaper when you already have the garden sprayer kit  ;)

But yes that is another way...

Benefit of the sprayer way is you are underneath the car watching it go in, and can stop as soon as it starts to spit out again.

We have purpose made oil fillers that work along the same lines at work for filling gearboxes etc.
And you run less chance of having to clean up ATF from your drive afterwards ...  ::)  :y  :y

I don't have any of those fancy oil filters, mines just a 99p set from tesco  ::)

Reading all this makes me think this is one of those jobs on the miggy that is awkward, fiddly and a right bloody pain! :o :o

I will have to do it on mine soon as I am on 111K and I have no record of it being done before.  Not looking forward to it now :(

How much does a Vx dealer charge? ::) ::) ;D ;)

the sump is coming off anyway as want to change the fluid. so if i understand this correctly the oil goes back in thru the bolt on the sump  :-/ :-/

tunnie, there's a small bolt in the drivers side i think it is on the larger sump pan on mine...
asin mine has a sort of drain plug besides the filler/level check plug hole

if you look at this picture and then look at the opposite side on your gearbox then you should find this filler plug
