for me it just comes down to money.
4 pot cheaper to run, repair, and insure i would have thought. Plus easier to work on. Cheaper and easier to fit lpg. It would have to be a manual though for me, the auto will sap to much of that lesser power, and i cant be arsed with manuals there days, too much traffic.

You will get more power and a much smoother ride with a v6, much more refined. I have driven 2.0 16v owned 2.5 and now 3.2. The 4 pot suprised me i have to say, it was very reasonable to drive. But i would have this little voice in my head"you should have a got a v6 then, not much more money, and  more luxury"

The clincher for me, if it was that close a choice, would be that currently nobody on here is aware of a way to flash out the error codes on a 2.2. They cant be paperclipped. So any issues, you will need a code reader.

Get yourself a 2.6 lad, you know you want to. The v6 is worth it imho.

I've had a 2.0 and soon to get rid of a 2.5

The 2.5 isnt exactly fast as it eventually gets to 60 in 10 or so seconds, the 2.0 does it in a painstaking 12 or 13 from what i remember

A well maintained 4pot is a lot quicker than that, mines done the dash to 60 is around 9 seconds.

Hmmmmmmm
Swings and roundabouts it is. I have a code reader thingy, though I have no idea if the rather poor software that came with it will read anything off a 2.2

Good reasons for owning either, I think I will go out and look at both, maybe that will help make up my mind, I think the sensible part of me wants a 2.2 and the then the emotional part of me wants a V6, for the sound if nothing else.

Its a hard life :)

I can feel some form of drag racing coming on  ;D ;D ;D :D

I still don't understand why there are no CDX's for sale in Shrewsbury.

Have found a V6 in Worcester that is worth a look.

Go for the V6 you know you want to!

Cam cover on the 4 pots costs less than £20 with GM parts, and takes an hour, its sooo EASY! even when i had never done it before.

Lot to be said for ease of maintaince for a novice on a 2.2

Time to dust off my performance meter, find a private test track and substantiate some of these claims perhaps?

I drove a 2.2 Facelift after having had a 2.5TD and didn't like it.  Felt HUGELY underpowered.  The Omega is a big heavy car that feels very mismatched to the 2.2 I drove.
Went and drove a 2.5V6 and was sold instantly.  I miss the economy of the TD (and in a sad way the way it used to sound like a bus or a coach, and not a car from inside), but there's a much nicer roar when you put your foot down in the V6.

I was also conscious of having to tow with it, and thought if it couldn't pull itself along at any rate then it would struggle dragging a pikey wagon too.

I'd say avoid the 2.0 and a 2.2 at all costs, and an omega is quite heavy, and 2.0 and 2.2's only being a 4 pot, there just isnt enough get up and go (especially in 1st with an auto box from 0 mph) personally I would get th 2.6 or 3.0 if I was to get another one, i've also experienced a 2.5 (owned) and a 2.6 vectra and even though the bhp is the same, i noticed a massive difference in pulling power throughout the gears with a 2.6 with the torque being more.

I have never driven a 3.0 or 3.2, and I guess you have to remember tax and insurance and fuel economy

Why o why vauxhall didnt give the omega  5 speed + gear box I do not know, I just find with my 2.5 a higher ratio'd 1st gear would have made all the difference

Do vauxhall make 5 and 6 speed auto boxes now ?, i only drove a 2.0 tdi 140bhp 57 a6 the other day, and its got a 7 speed auto, from 0 to 60, i raced it with my omega, wiped the floor with a 4 pot 2.0 diesel :(

Get the 2.6 or 3.0 my freind, you will much appriciate more power throughout the rev range.

Did you have a house brick under the throttle pedal ???? ::)

I'm a relative newbie to Omegas but I've just driven my 2.5 CDX saloon, which I bought a month ago,  500 miles to Bristol and back. I found it smooth, relaxing, and reasonably economical, if the display can be believed -33.5 mpg @ mostly 80-90mph cruising on the motorway. In fact so relaxing was the drive that I can't really remember much about it. I do remember the windscreen wipers packing up though, thanks to the balljoint at one end of the mechanism falling to bits.

I also have had a 3.0 Elite estate since June but I can't really comment on that as the engine has been rather troublesome. My own fault -I bought a car with no tax or MOT. It is awaiting further major work. In the brief few weeks when it appeared to be running properly it seemed very, very lively. I can't wait to get it back on the road, whereas the 2.5 is functional but unexciting. I can see why there are so many of them around. A very sensible choice for the family man who regularly drives longer distances.

I have a 2.5 Elite estate arriving shortly, but as that car also only has five cylinders I won't be able to offer an opinion until and if I restore it to a 6-pot!

I can't comment on the 4 pot Omegas as I have not driven any.
