How much should I be asking for an MV6 manual box?
« on: 09 November 2007, 21:58:27 »

As above. I don't think I'll be opening it up and putting the insides in a TD box anymore... Too much faffing about.
The box itself has done just over 75k doesnt whine, crunch or have and play in the selector mechanism. But could probably do with fresh oil sticking in it for good measure as I have no knowledge of this been done.

As always, any ideas appreciated  :y

Not a lot, because gearboxes are quite common.

Maybe £70 (guess) if it's in really good order.

If the gearchange is smooth as silk from cold, I may well be very interested. My gearbox is sh1te....

It changes the same, from cold to temp.  :y

When you say yours is sh1te, whats wrong with it? have you tried changing the oil?

Yup, two oil changes with the right stuff. Box is smooth as silk when warmed up, but when it's cold first thing in morning, the gearchange is horrible. I've already fitted a new clutch kit and bled hydraulics - no difference from cold though.

;D ;D

At the end of the day, I'm not that worried. I'll probably live with it until it dies.

Ultimately, a decent second hand gearbox costs less than a bloody DIS pack.... and I can change it in a day.

I've had a couple of cars like that. they rarely get any worse and you just live with it.

I remember my old PUG 405, was awful when cold - when warmed up, it was absolutely fine.

Unusual on a vauxhall box though... this is the first case I've really seen of it.

The alfa's a little bit that way, but only for 30 secs or so.

My sister had an PUG 306 S16 - you needed a sledge hammer to change gear when it was cold!

So I guess it's not that uncommon. Remember, it's ATF in the omega, seems a bit thin to me.

I've even driven brand new cars that suffer with this, I think it's just "one of those things"

Laidback drove my car from cold, and typically, it behaved for him :( ;D

I wonder if a different / revised oil that might help? I've only ever used the right VX one in it though.

When I first joined VxON, I asked about this. MARKS_DTM told me that all omegas suffered and, when they where serviced by Vx, they changed the oil for a different one. I seem to remember that the box should be topped up to 9mm below the filler. This seemed important, but I wonder how many of us actually do that?
