what would you do?
« on: 10 November 2007, 23:08:12 »

Ok....arrived at a fare this evening.....4 kids + 1 adult.

I was run nearly 9 miles outa area for this job.......didnt know where it was going...

So problem......im only licensed to carry 4 passengers.....

Discovered the prob and informed the adult.....

They only want to go 2 miles down the road.......but as its outa area im looking at about Ģ15 for the job....

So.....im not insured to carry to 5 passengers

Survey coming up......

What would you do......bearing in mind you've been run about 9 miles......and if you refuse to carry....you've got another 9 miles to get back.....

On the one hand you could have taken them and driven even more carefully than normal and there wouldn't have been a problem.

On the other hand, it could have been a test by the local authority to see whether you would have taken the fare.

On balance, probably best to leave them behind or, as it's only a two mile journey, take three of them for Ģ15 and then come back for the others at a lower rate. That way, everyone is happy.  :y

Offer then 2 trips for twice the money - they should have ordered a larger vehicle

OR

Leave them there.

In that order.

You're dead right Cap'n. We have two taxis every day to take the two foster kids to school. I guess you all have to be CRB checked these days don't you?

I thought there was a big campaign a few years ago about only using licenced taxis cos the drivers are checked etc following a few attacks on women by bogus taxi drivers.

:)I used to be a cabbie & the answer's NO simple as. If anything happened you'd be well & truly breaked.
Often on a fri/sat night you go to a pub/club & half the town wants to climb in. I used to give them a card & tell them to phone for the Minibus, order another cab. Always had central locking on til i was sure.
If all else fails & you,re outnumbered then break 'em wellie it out of there, you were being threatened, and call it in as a runner, non fare etc.
What wound me up more was being asked "Are you busy?" or punters banging on about the weather.
They do'nt realize how often you've been asked.
Sorry, ranting again, where's me coat! >:(

So, here's the solution. You take the first three children and the adult, leaving the remainder with a guardian, to the destination and leave the children there with a responsible and trusted adult. You then take the adult back to the remaining children and transport them to the original destination. Problem solved.

I knew the riddle of the fox the chicken and the dog would come in handy one day.  ;D ;D ;D

You may of misunderstood me.....i get checked every 6 months by CRB....council recognises this...and can carry kids to/from school if i choose to.....tho not all drivers choose to have a CRB check done on them.....therefore they carnt carry schoolkids IF on council contract....its the drivers choice....in my licencing area.

As this is the case in local area.....mr or mrs joe public doesnt know if the driver has passed a crb check recently.......

Ahh see what you mean, but you work for a reputable firm so I would expect your drivers to be trustworthy.
