Thanks mate - will have a look.

If it is a leaking cooler plate, can this be used again with new sealant or is a new one required?

Also is the thermostat seal easlily accessable when stripped down to the oil cooler plate?

Cheers Rob

As long as there is not a hole in the plate itself you can reuse it with new sealant.
As for the thermostat you will need to slide out the transfer pipe before you can get the housing out.

I bought mine with 63k on the clock and a full dealer service history and when I drained the coolant it looked like vegetable stock! Defo flush it out. Water pumps are about £21 with trade discount from Vauxhall and changing the pump has the double advantage of eliminating a possible leak point and allowing you to drain the block completely. As a short term measure, flush the coolant as best you can and do the pump when you're ready for a cambelt change.

Mine still loses a pint of water a week, has done for about 20k! HBV's done and I don't think it's a rubber hose because it would have got worse by now. Could be coolant transfer pipe at the back, could be something in the V although it seemed dry last time I looked. Need to find the time to whip it apart after a drive to see if I can catch it in the act.

How about presurising the system via a schreader valve on A N Other header tank cap?

That's the idea. Just 'obtain' another cap from the scrappies, drill a hole in it & pull a tyre valve through the hole.

MDTM's idea ...  :y :y

Now that sounds like a use for one of the Monza's shredded track tyres!

Sorry mate.  what I meant was, would I be able to re-fit the origional cooler plate, using new sealant - but know i've realized that this is a bit of a stupid question, cos I pressume that provided the cover plate is'nt damaged - it should surely be ok to re-fit.

I thought i'd read somewhere on here that the cover plates are only fitted with vauxhall sealant.

Thanks everyone - For some reason I didn't see all the replies before I posted the previous message.  The questions already been answered.  Cheers

Drained and flushed the coolant today.  It looked like vegatable oil.  I am now even more suspecting the oil cooler.

Will be very reluctantly stripping down to the oil cooler during next week, so will let you know what the outcome is.

Does anyone know where I can get an oil cooler from, at the best price?.

Cheers Rob
