correct oil for my v6
« on: 13 April 2009, 16:47:52 »

Iam  going to do an oil change on the omega 2.6 v6 auto tommorow. Was just wondering which is the best oil to use for it, i tend to do a lot of city and motorway driving and the car is lpg converted. I read at quite a few places that castrol edge ow30 is supposed to be good or the magnetic 10w40. i cant be sure. Any help would be appreciated

you'll not be able to better VX semi-synthetic.  if you can get a trade club card you can get 4 cans for under £40.

As far as engine oil is concerned - don't worry about the crap that the marketing men write, just change it more frequently than 10k miles

get yourself a trade club card here,
 http://www.autobahnstormers.org/
Print out the form send it off and the card will be with you in a couple of days.

Then get yourself 10w40 semi synth from the part dept. and get the discount the card gives you.

Vx own is cheapest and best for the meega.

I wouldn't put Castrol in my engines.

As others have said, get a Tradeclub card (gives you discount on Vauxhall standard servicing parts), and get 4 x 5l of Vauxhall's own semi synth 10/40 for around £34+VAT.

Its a very good oil, and at that price, you can afford to change it regularly, which will do a million times more good than any fancy oils.

And I bung it in the Omega, the Rover, the motorbike, and the lawnmower.  It also goes in the oilcan ::)

tradeclub prices are cheaper than trade ;)

For eg, here are Retail, Trade, and TC prices for 5l of semi synth (all ex vat)

5 litres 93165216 £25.90 £20.20 £10.89

and in addition, there is a 4 for the price of 3 offer on oil on TC.

Genuine trade can apply for card at their local dealer.  Non trade can get it via 'clubs' such as www.autobahnstormers.org

Participating dealers found at www.tradeclub.co.uk

Hi TB , can you pls verify a question . I have looked on the autobahnstormers website and my local VX dealer is on there :) . If I apply for one of the auto cards will I get trade or T/C prices ? Sorry but I am a little confused. Also , what is the cost of the card , as I am sure it would be " refunded" in no time with purchases made on it via the savings made.

Many thanks

Dave

Mig is my other car.   Also got 2006 Astra for work, both daughters have Vauxhalls   Vectra & Corsa.   Wife has 2001 Astra. Will trade club card from autobahnstormers allow me to get parts for those other vehicles also.
