they wont compare to a modern diesel mate and thats a fact no common rail injection

unchipped they are a joke! lethargic and very slow!

the 3.0v6 deffinatly has more pulling power and pulls a hell of alot more especially in manual guise

that pissat will have the clever twin turbo engine in it hence the massive tourqe i believe they are nearly pushing 150bhp now

i love my v6 but am really really considering a Td next - how do they compare to modern diesels? i just love the torque on our company passat, the fact that you can really shift without to much effort is what is swaying me - torque on v6 seems to be somewhat lacking :-/
I detest that vag 1.9 diesel with a passion, but on its narrow power band, it can accelerate (in 130bhp form, or higher ;))

The VAG is more economical, but much smaller, lighter car

Despite my age I am guilty of changing up as early as 1800/2000revs when in sofa mode (often in Omega). When i first got Omega and saw that I am driving around at 1200 revs i thought something was wrong with the rev-counter.
On the other side, when my Golf I cabrio is nicely warmed-up I often rev it up to 5000 - just cause I enjoy it.

BTW, don't take me wrong - I actually don't drive much - on average 12k km per year. If it was around 20k (12k miles) or more, I would obviously drive a diesel cause it makes sence financially.

Totally agree! I have driven it in a Golf IV estate - it was a 110 or 115ps version). You really have to be carefull it is allways in its power band - it is either all or nothing. Very economical and very noisy!

Chip 'em to about 140ish, and they start to smoke too bad for MOT. Chip 'em beyond 170ish, and the drive train melts...

Sure, but I think GM exagerated the problem even more with galactic gear ratios. I find 2.5 V6 gutless when I drive on Swiss motorways where you don't dare to venture over 130kmph. Unless you are crazy enough not to use top 2 gears! Once I am across the border, in direction towards Karlsruhe, the car becomes responsive at speeds over 160kmph. It is efortless between 160 and 200kmph - resposive under right foot but rock stable otherwise.
