self-levelling suspension question.
« on: 16 May 2009, 20:04:06 »

Hi - Can someone tell me how many sensors for the Self-levelling suspension set-up there are and where I can find them fitted on the car.

My Elite set-up is pumping the rear of the car to the maximum travel on the shocks and I am having to release the pressure by pulling one of the hoses off every few days.  Clearly it's a sensor that is playing up but where are they on the car?  I have also noticed that the headlight beam may well be affected as it isn't lighting up the road ahead as I well as I would have expected with the Zenon headlights.

Hope someone can help....   :y

Suspension sensor is on the rear OFF side radius arm. You could just pull the fuse for the compressor as a TEMPORARY measure. :y
HID sensors are on fron & rear NEAR side wishbone & radius arm.

Headlight level sensors (there are 2) are both on the near-side (passenger side) of the car. Front is on thw wishbone and rear connected to the back axle and bodywork (iirc), The suspension level sensor is also on the back axle but on the drivers side. They have a tendency to sieze up or the ball joint sometimes pops out. A quick visual check should confirm.

Thanks guys - I found the gizmo on the font wishbone and I think that was ok - I say think as I thought the little arm was a little loose so pulled it to see it it was connected and it seemed to pop off so now I am not sure if it was connected to where it was supposed to be or just wedged somewhere.

Would this sensor on the front wishbone affect the self levelling suspension?  The fault only appeared after I changed my front disks and pads.

As usual any help is appreciated  :y

Don't know working on the front has affected the rear. :-/ Maybe lifting has moved the suspension switch/sensor further than it has done for a while  :-/  :-/  :-/

the level sensor is located drivers side next to the rear dif. as said. Its about 2 by 3 inch box with a right angle lever/arm connected to a small linked rod with a plastic rose joint on each end. Check the rose joints are still connected/everything is still attached and that the connector is still plugged in and not damaged. If the suspension is rising to full hight you should have no trouble getting under the rear of the car. Its how i use mine when i need to get under the back.

If all is working as it should, when parked in front of, a garage door for instance with lights on, you should be able to see the headlights move when you pop the rose joint off the level sensor arm and raise it, or drop it to its lowest position.  The car should move in the same direction as you move the arm. When the car rises and falls the lights should move the beam visibly.

Sounds like a level sensor issue tbh. As the car is high but the lights dont know and are not adjusting accordingly. For simplicity i would concentrate on the selflevel and forget the lights issue until the car sits at the right hight.

If you sit on the rear bumper/boot ledge with feet on the floor while the pump is running you should feel the car rise or fall dependeing. Engine runnings though or youll flatten the battery, it take a while to rise fully.

Have you got "low headlight/field of vision" on the dash display? If not the car thinks the lights are fine.

hi - nope there are no error messages on the display - but the headlights do seem to be very low, this is my 3rd Omega with Zenon's so I know that usually they are pretty good headlights but as stated I need to sort the levelling out before I do anything about the haedlights.  The back of the car gets so high that I find I have to adjust the door mirrors down slightly !!

Does anyone have a spare self levelling sensor that I can buy?

Cheers
