After a few weeks of code 64 coming and going and doing the advised work I'm still having problems getting Syd to fire up once warm. Have tried the diesel magic thing several times, replaced leak off pipes and changed battery and a few filters. If I run the engine for more than 15 mins I know I will have problems starting once the engine is cool enough for the glow plug light to come on I know it will start straight away. I carry a few litres of water and a home made funnel so when I get stuck I pour water on injector pump and within a few mins it starts. Its getting a real pain parking places in quiet spots so I can tinker with my engine so is there anything else anyone can suggest I try :-? Paying a garage to change the pump is not an option and I think its out of my league to do

Did you fit a brand-new battery of the correct spec for a 2.5TD?

yes I tried that and still no difference : Given myself until end of May and if my pair of migs are not running they are going on ebay, buy one get one free

Hmmm - sounds like you might need a new injection pump.

Had mine done last year for, wait for it, err, just over £1200!
Hopefully, Omegatoy or TheBoy will be along soon to possibly shed some further light on your situation, and before final condemnation.

poor car! £1200 isnt so bad if your planning to keep the car in the longterm it will problably be its only major expense!

I got it a few weeks ago to run around in while I fixed the petrol estate but Ive spent more time fixing the td. It came with 12months MOT but there is no way it should have passed, next time I buy a car I will take someone with me who knows what to look for Time to stop spending money on them I think, thanks for the help and will keep on with the cold water until it the pump stops altogether I have learnt alot about them so may strip them down and sell as parts

i understand that chipping them may overcome this issue (but will shag the box if auto), failing that, I think there may be a bodge for this on the range rover forums, to ensure the glowplugs come on...

It's a manual and had thought about chipping it if I was going to keep Syd will have a look on the other forum, thanks I have been offered 2 pumps via pm but not sure Im up to changing it, I couldnt find anything in the maintenance section am I just missing it :-?

Sorry Ali, but there's no 'how to' on the Forum.

I took mine to the local fuel-injection people, and let them get on with it. Although it was a colossal expense, I intend keeping mine for a few years yet. It's a good tow-car for our caravan, and only covers around 5000 miles a year - much of that being on holidays. My view is that it's worth more to me than some smooth-talking car salesman.

Most importantly, Mrs Sethsmate loves driving it, and it accomodates four grandchildren with ease!

If I can find a guide somewhere I may give it a go, what do I have to loose  Except over a grand if I give it to someone else Someone on ebay was selling a tool for this job, may have to email him :-?

if you do change pumps, the later pumps dont work with the earlier ECUs...

not an easy job!!! plus you need the special tool that holds the chain sprocket for the pump in place which takes the place of the tensioner assembly on the alternator belt, getting the injector pipes off the back of the pump is a idiot of a job without breaking anything too!!!!inside them are tiny little washers/seals which are easily dropped without noticeing as well!!

there are those that have done it but it isnt an easy diy job!!!
