Yep i have located the switch which is in the top right hand corner, underneath a large coolant hose. The connector does indeed have 3 wires coming out of it.The actual switch itself has a powdery green deposit all around the seal.I disconnected the connector and cleaned the switch and then used contact cleaner on the terminals. No change at all.

I have seen that there are three types of radiator switch for my model.Ive ruled one out as its a completely different shape. The other two are part nos.:

90376209 (AC)
90339409 (WG)

Im assuming i should go for the one with AC but not 100%.Is it most likely to be the switch which is causing the problem?

yes go for one with a/c as you have it,but to make sure its the switch you can do a simple test.

get some wire about 2 inch long and both ends with bare wire and with connecter of and ignition on but car not running croos coneecter terminals you should get fan working if it does then it will b switch i had to do a test like that a while ago on my old cav and it was switch, they fail cos of all the heat evrn tho most are brass :y

Right....

Just looked at the connector..there are only 2 wires coming out of the connector,no space for any more(definitely not one missing),and even  when this is unplugged the fan comes on as soon as ignition is turned on.Only way to turn off at the moment is to pull the larger connector that goes straight to the fan(in middle of rad.)

Any ideas?

Well the part i need must be this one, because the on with'AC' is a 3 terminal and mine is just 2.

http://partfinder.smpeurope.com/index.html?p=156&partid=50195&from=153&recordset=208&value=50195

I do have AC but it must be this switch as its the only one in the 2.0L range that has 2 terminals.

there is always a first time
and it only takes a minute to try with another relay
which is cheaper than buying parts to try and see if it cures it

Update:

Well it seems i bought the wrong part.Well right part but wrong job.

The switch i changed was the two wired one on the top right of the radiator. It wasnt until i took the coolant hose off and took the old switch out that i noticed there is a bigger three wired switch on the bottom left of the radiator.

Sure enough the fan is still running as soon as i turn ignition on.What was the switch i changed??

The top plug on mine, controls the engine bay fuse box fan, and the main big rad fan... (Sensor died yesterday in the hot weather, so had to bridge it..)
