Well this morning all worked ok. This afternoon, nothing. Went to scrappy and picked up a set, dismantled them and tried to adjust mileage (not knowing exactly how) and managed to pull a fine wire from its solder so doubt these will work now either.

Big dirty great engines am ok with, small fiddly electronics not so good. So back to square 1. I'm just not happy with having clocks in that show the wrong mileage. Am a perfectionist really with cars  :D :-[

I'd have just tried the 'new clocks' for a few days to check that yor old clocks were the actual problem. You could always look into 'correcting' your milage at another time.

A valid point, one which I overlooked  :-[

Good news though, just in case, I swapped the PCB's inside the clocks over; using my clocks with the correct mileage and the board from the donor clocks and now all works fine. Unfortunately though due to it getting dark now, as I was putting the clocks back in I managed to loose two of my screwdriver bits in the bowels. Will have to look for them when it's light.

Shall also look at the climate bulbs then too.

Well all was well until I came to start up to come home from work. Rev counter dead, speedo flickering again. Now I'm wondering if its the clocks or not.

Any ideas?

A bit of thinking leads me to suspect the crank sensor. Is this possible? Does the speedo take its info from the crank sensor? The needle does flicker 'in time' with the engine as it were.

Crank sensor price if it could be this?

Right, to complicate matters it seems I now have a flat battery whenever I go to the car. I can't help thinking the problems are related. I know a voltage issue COULD cause the speedo problem. Trying to source a multimeter (mine broke) so I can do some testing.

In the meantime. Any ideas?

Battery showed 10V static. When engine on, 13.7V but never dipping below 13V even with headlights etc switched on.

Am I to assume the battery has had it?
