Omega Diesel Automatic
« on: 24 July 2009, 16:52:33 »

I am after an Omega 2.2 diesel automatic> late model (2002- 2004). Ideally CDX spec, but must have cruise control. Does such a car exist or is it only in manual form. Many thanks

2.2 DTi was only available as a manual, no autos were made.

There was a diesel automatic, it was a 2.5 td originally from BMW. It was stopped in 2000, so there aren't any later one's than that.

Cheers, is that all ages? Am I right in thinking the early ones are BMW engines and the later ones Vauxhall units?

Edit, posts crossed. Thanks for the help. Now I know what I'm looking for.

Up to 2000 I believe, then the 2.2 DTI was launched and yes the 2.5's are straight six BMW engines :y

From 1994 - 2001, the Omega had the BMW 2.5 M51tds engine, designated U25DT and X25DT by Vauxhall.  These were available in manual and auto form.

Then from 2001 onwards, Vauxhall Omegas got the GM 2.2DTi engine, available in manual only.  Opel Omegas got the BMW common rail 2.5TD (designated Y25DT by Opel), available with manual or a 5 speed auto

Since gaining my 2.5 Auto CD I've really fallen in love with Omegas so I want to replace my 1.8 Astra with one, it would need to be a diesel though because of my commute to work. I'm going to take the Omega this week to see what it does on fuel because for a 1.8 the astra uses a lot, mainly down to the short top gear.

I'm only getting 30mpg average out of the astra which is a bit pap for a 1.8 that spends most of it's time on the motorway. Fellow astra owners tell me theirs achieve similar figures to mine so if the Omega can beat that then the mrs gets the Astra.  ;D ;D
