Are we talking weight saving as in vehicles total weight OR performance levels?

How much does an Omega weigh? Supras, well mkiii Supras, weigh in at 1648kilo, there very heavy cars and lightened flywheels on them make a huge difference to the performance, barely scratches the surface for total weight but who cares, there not fitted for that reason!

I know its not an Omega but the difference it makes on a heavy car like a Supra is enormous.....

A lightened flywheel contributes more than just the weight saving because, in addition to accelerating the weight of the flywheel in the direction of travel of the car, you are using energy spinning the flywheel up to maximum engine RPM as you accelerate through each gear.

The energy this requires is a product of the flywheel's mass and the rate of change of engine RPM. This is why it makes more difference in the lower gears as it's only when the engine is accelerating quickly that it makes any odds.
