Okay. My opinion - and its important to remember its just that.

I personally feel that some of the content in general chat has not been up to much over the last few months.

Now i can either come on and blast what people write, or i can politely decline to post. I have recently being doing the later as is my want. It may be that i am not alone and that is why some people are not here as often or post as frequently.

Personally i am not really into the whole nags head or quiz night thing, although i have no doubts its great fun, its not me.

It may also be that people move on, sell cars, or are just moderate users.

Now this is not to start a rant and i do stress there are no issues with any particular thread or person, None at all. But from a personal point of view its why i am not here as often. I am neither right or wrong. I do know there are others that share this view, but thats up to them to comment on or offer thoughts on.

Again, to summarise, i have made a personal choice here and offer this post simply as a reply to the questions above.

I am surprised you think that either the Nags Head or Quiz Night threads are putting people off. They are additional subjects and have not displaced the many other themes discussed under the "General Chat" banner. I quite understand that you are not into that sort of thread but equally, there are a few I expect, that may get a little weary of the many threads on part numbers, Trade Club discounts, or the latest eBay bargain. Personally, I don't mind any of these, but I believe that there's plenty of room for every subject and every taste (well, nearly.. ;D).

I suspect that the reason it's gone so quiet is quite simply the time of year. Few of us are venturing out in the cold during the few daylight hours available to tinker with our Omegas. By contrast, during the summer we all get stuck into those maintenance tasks we've been putting off, and also get the polishing cloths out to do some valeting. Additionally, this is not the time of year for much car trading, so there are fewer threads about replacements and so on.

The records for numbers online (vistors/guest/both) have all been set during the summer/early autumn, so the facts would seem to support the theory, IMHO.

I must say that I have to agree with Nickbat. The idea behind the Nag's Head threads was that people's posts were getting hijacked on a regular basis and, in an attempt to avoid this, Nick introduced us to the Nag's Head.

It has had some success but hasn't featured regularly for at least two weeks. I would suggest that it only lasted for a couple of weeks at most.

The content in 'general chat' is entirely in our hands and as such if we are dissatisfied with what is there then it is up to us to post what interests us or what we think others may find interesting or amusing.

I appreciate that not everyone will appreciate my interests or what I find interesting or amusing. What I enjoy about this forum is the diversity of views and the light hearted way that things are portrayed. I have read about people's successes and failures, and about their happiest and saddest of times. Seldom does a post go unanswered and when someone is in trouble there is always someone there to offer help, advice or just a virtual shoulder to cry on. I know that if I have a problem there will be wise people on here who I can turn to for assistance and advice.

I would urge anyone, if what is on here in not to your taste then please change it by posting what you find interesting. It is just that which makes this place what it is.

Personally, I have no problem with the Nags Head.  Dropped in now and again for a dram and passed the time of day with those in.  Its not my regular, nor am I fully into the quiz nite thing on line (but do enjoy the 'real' ones) but again, I respect the call of others.  As long as its all within the 'rools' of the site and its raison d'etre, I have no problems....

just my personal opinion, nothing more nd nothing less,  and as Bruce mentiones further on in the thread, each to their own. I have no doubts there is support for both events, just not my thing. And nothing wrong with either event. Just not my preferred flavour.

As mentioned i dont have a problem with it, i just dont participate. Doesnt mean others shouldnt.

Another reason the forum goes quiet is because quite often groups of members are having a group "chat" using an msn messenger client. Not saying it shouldn't happen - but is a contributor nonetheless.

I've been "invited" into these group conversations a few times, but I cannot seem to see much past the huge mass of smilies, emoticons, and "lol's / LMAO's" to get into it.

I personally think that MSN Messenger is the ideal tool for keeping the quiz teams talking and for people who want to have a more 'instant' conversation.

I have and will continue to take part in the Quiz whenever I can, it is a laugh and gets you talking to other members.

If messenger helps to stop the General Chat section being filled with posts that really only have a limited audience then Messenger is probably a better medium. What concerns me is that the forum could start to split up into different groups and that is not what I thought we were all here for.

I, like others on here, tend to post a lot less and tend to look more at the help sections than the general chat section as it holds more interest to me, that is my personal preference, it in no way means I have an issue with anyone or anything, it's just that primarily I come on here to learn more about Omega's and the odd couple of faults they have  ;D ...... and hopefully can offer advice when someone has a similar issues on their car to what I have had.

I personally have no problem with any of the 'specialised' subjects on here, (Nags Head, Quiz night etc.) and I'm happy to read and digest all manner of topics whether I have views on them or not. I did, however, get a feeling when I first joined that there were a lot of 'private' jokes and situations being discussed, which possibly limits the number of people prepared to butt in. Nothing wrong with that of course, and in time I became more familiar with a lot of these scenarios by reading previous posts but perhaps some folk get a feeling of not being part of it all. And the habit of not adding one's name to a post could, in my humble opinion, leave some folk feeling out of things.
Also, if you read through some problem posts, it's not uncommon for a point to remain unanswered or even not referred to in subsequent replies, almost as if the matter has been ignored. Only a thought, of course!
I visit almost every day, but only post when I think, sometimes inadvisedly, that I have some useful contribution to make. As has been said, everyone to their own. I'm sure most members feel there's not much wrong with the forum as it is.
I enjoy it, anyway.
Cheers,
Bill.
