I will let you know my progress,AndyB,as I have aquired a wooden wheel without radio controls.
My intention is to fit all the bits from a standard "minifacelift"leather wheel to the new wheel and then transplant onto the car.
Also see from Tunnies picture you can get faux wooden handle insets..looks interesting !!

You're welcome.

Thinking about it, if the objective is to add to a pre facelift model then take the parts from a scrap mini or facelift model and use the additional connections intended for the audio controls.

I'd like a 'wooden' Irmscher steering wheel, however they all seem to be for the earlier prefacelift cars without radio controls. I have a minifacelift car with the controls ....blah blah blah!  ;) Si I thought that if Vauxhall could add them to a normal leather wheel, it might be possible to fit them to a 'wooden' wheel.
If Graham would sell me his .........  ::)  ::)  ::)

lolol as it happens mate, I may be taking it off when i get back to spain, and putting the original back on!! so tell me the plan on how you think you can put the audio controls etc onto the early wheel??? cos i wouldnt want it butchered as its such a rare piece of kit!! :o

I thought yours had the audio controls!  :-/ Obviously not if you say that.
I was just thinking outloud really, considering that 'wooden' wheels without controls are easier to get hold of, apparently the 'wooden' minifacelift wheels are even rarer than rocking horse poo & hen's teeth put togther. I just thought that if Vauxhall managed to do it, they would have try to do it as easily as they could ..... so altering one might be viable.  :y  :y

So where is the issues with fitting the audio controls to the older style wheel then ?agree it doesn,t have the fixings for the side control pads but that cannot be that difficult to get around, even with fitting a threaded sleeve into the body of the wheel..then surely the audio style fitted air bag etc will just be fitted onto the old style wheel and wired up from the car ..jobs a good,n then ?

AndyB...so does another part need to be fitted to the steering wheel body then?
Am I missing the point here then ?...remove existing minifacelift wheel with audio control..replace on same car with wheel with no radio controls..then just fit the audio controls to newly fitted wheel(making some holes to take fittings)...or am I having a senior moment ...again ?
