That sounds good at first, but on further thought I don't know how much that would help.  In a very literal sense I don't know, you never see cops so how can you know what effect they would have on a situation?  Maybe that's part of the cachet, the criminals don't know either?  

This isn't a knock on members of the police force, more about reliance on CCTV and other cameras instead of actual people.  Ends up being more about punishment and paperwork than safety and prevention.

I am a member of a preserved railway, a local traffic cop is as well, I had his phone number so was able to circumvent things.
