thermostat
« on: 21 December 2009, 11:03:50 »

Hi can you tell me how hard it is to change the thermostat on my omega 2.6 v6  02 auto
I usually do some things myself, but due to the weather I thought it might be easier to get a garage to do it, they said it is quoted at 2.7 hours labour, 120 plus parts, because of this this tells me it isnt a easy job, there isnt a lot on these cars that are easy i know, but what are your thoughts, he said that he wasnt sure wether you had to change the housing aswell. ? Thanks

I think I paid about £50 just for the thermostat from VX, they changed mine, charged me £150 but I already had the parts and they used those

Its not that bad a job and you can get the thermostat insert on its own for just under a tenner. Thats what I did with my last Mig and its simple to do, bit like a light bulb bayonet fitting really.Taking off and then replacing the housing from the motor is where the time factor costs you unless you DIY. Good guide in the Maintenance section will help you through it. I am doing it again on my latest Mig tomorrow by the same method so you can see it does save you quiite a lot of hard earned cash.Go on, be brave and jump in!GudLuk

Thats what I have bought. Is it ok to just change that? Or do I need to get a new housing as well?
