Halfrauds and glow plugs for 2.5TD
« on: 09 January 2010, 20:24:34 »

Right, been having probs starting over the cold weather, from cold (sic). Car starts OK when warm, but from cold, at -4 struggles, almost flattening battery.. Garage diagnosis.. probable glowplug deterioration, suggest replacements.

Popped down to my local Halfrauds, and asked for the appropriate parts for the vehicle..
'employee' asks for cars details. ie: Vauxhall, Omega, 2.5TD, 1996 (N) reg...
replies, 'there isn't such a car'?? checks again, but no, their database does not hae a 2.5TD model listed??
2.5 petrol, 3.0 petrol, 3.2 petrol, no diesels at all!!! WTF???
'employee' asked for reg of car, and then tells me it's 'Vauxhall corsa, 1.4 petrol' according to their database, FFS!!!

So, have visited local factors, and been offered 6 Bosch glowplugs for the car (checked on their computer as correct (using reg no)) for £29 inc VAT,
or 6 NGK glowplugs for £42.50 inc VAT.

Any suggestions as to which to go for, or are VX's any better/worse??

Also, any advice regards changing them, or should I get the garage to do it (-4 here at mo, and if I do the job, it's got to be out in the road!!  :o )

Cheers guy's.  :y

Cheers Wellung, the NGK number I was quoted is :
Y-924J (3473), priced @ £42.50 for the 6
Just wondered if that was reasonable. Didn't want to get any 'cheap' ones from 'fleabay' as people said they were rubbish. Not too sure what the 'reasonable' price is for this sort of kit. Both Bosch and NGK are seen to be 'good' makes.  :)

Fitted NGKs in my previous 2.5TD.
Got them from local factors for 28 quid, and still going strong two years later!
