Tracing Leaks
« on: 05 February 2010, 09:19:29 »

Not a how do I, more a how I have done so on my trusty (albeit leaky) Mig.

1 bottle of

Some oil to mix it with and to top up oil in car. (stick dye into oil and shake, prior to chucking into the engine, make sure you clean the filler, otherwise any dye on this will drip down and give you the mother of all shocks as you think that the whole right hand rocker is porous ~ lesson was learnt the hard way)

Cheap UV torch (this one is multifunction so you get white as well as UV, and a pointless laser pointer)

So for roughly £10 you have the bits to trace your engine for leaks (The UV dye can also be used to trace coolant leaks).

Add on a steam clean for £15 (thats what I paid, might be a bit more/bit less).

Take car for a run, shine torch and then look on in amazement as you can see (via the UV bit of the torch)  the nice/pretty flourescent streaks and discover where they originate from.
